Our story

A coaching centre built by people who actually taught.

Twelve years, one centre, one belief: small groups, real tutors, honest progress.

Mentora tutor coaching a small group

Why we started.

Mentora began in 2013 in a single rented room above a bookstore on 100ft Road. Our founder, Aarthi Iyer, had been a school teacher for nine years and was tired of two things: the rote factory model, and the way most tuition centres treated students as numbers.

The first cohort was four students. They met twice a week. We tracked every assignment, every mistake, every breakthrough on a paper wall. By term end, all four had jumped at least one grade band. The wall stayed.

Twelve years later, the wall is digital, the cohort size is capped at eight, and the method hasn't changed: find the gap, name the gap, close the gap β€” with a real human who cares whether the kid actually gets it.

Our method

Four habits, repeated every week.

01

Diagnose first

Every student sits a 30-minute diagnostic before joining. We map exactly what they know and what they think they know.

02

Tiny batches

Maximum eight per cohort. Tutors can't hide behind a roster β€” they know every student's name and gap.

03

Drill, don't lecture

60% of session time is the student solving, not the tutor explaining. We teach the way sports coaches teach.

04

Report weekly

Parents get a written report every Friday. No vague 'doing well' β€” scores, trends, and the next focus.

Want to teach with us?

We hire twice a year. Tutors in training get paid, mentored for 6 weeks, and only then meet a cohort.
